Crossing the finish line of any marathon for the first time requires physical and mental conditioning. There's physical fatigue, the mental highs of pushing past psychological limitations, and the sheer excitement of feeding off competitors and a crowd. It is just this sort of physical and mental prep that are also required to be an accomplished salsa dancer.
My takeaway from 2015's IHRSA show--where the fitness industry's biggest players reveal their latest and greatest equipment--is that not much new or better "stuff" is coming this year.
I strolled the aisles (and occassionally posed for photographs) with close friend and colleague, Jen W.--The Biggest Loser's new hit trainer. And, unlike past shows that wowed me with new equipment, this year's show was a bit of a dud.
Yeah, we know, we know…exercise is good for us.
Active parents mean active kids right? And cycling is a great family activity, even for the little ones. We recently recommended the iBert Safe-T-Seat in our 2011 Holiday Gift Guide, but now we have fully tested the seat. And we're pleased that our recommendation stands!

From Yoga to Bootcamp
I workout religiously and I like routine. My “normal” 6 days a week sweat extravaganza includes a Hot Vinyasa Flow Class, and/or a Yoga Sculpt Class (heated Yoga combined with Weight Training and Cardio), and/or Barry’s Bootcamp, which is a combination of Cardio/Treadmill intervals with weight training etc. It works for me.
I enjoy playing golf, but like so many others it's difficult for me to justify the 5 to 6 hour time-suck a traditional 18 holes requires. I make the time when out-of-town relatives visit San Diego or we travel on holiday to destinations with a golf course. But, on a normal week to week basis, dedicating 5 hours to chipping and putting is about as appealing to me as rehab is to Charlie Sheen.
Is it really any surprise that, according to recent research, the bevy of "toning shoes" don't deliver? No you won't suddenly achieve a muscular backside, burn extra calories, or "get into shape without setting foot in a gym."
And if you thought you would...well that is positive thinking. I should know! I'm on my fourth pair of MBTs! Yep, I'm a devotee of the "toning" shoe.
